Only emergency contacts listed on the Pupil Information Sheet will be deemed acceptable to check a student out of school. Any person(s) not listed on the sheet will not be allowed access to the child.
It is imperative that M.E. Norman Elementary can contact a parent, relative, or close friend to care for our students in an emergency. In the case of extreme illness or injury where parental contact cannot be made, it will be school’s policy to contact emergency services or take any such action deemed appropriate with parents bearing responsibility for any charges incurred.
Please update Pupil Information Sheet as soon as possible any time there is a change, especially phone number changes, by contacting your child’s teacher or the front office.
Emergency/Severe Weather Situations
When severe weather or emergency occurs that creates a situation where school must close to ensure student safety, announcements will be made via, text message, television and radio (KQKI). Please be aware of any circumstances that may arise to be readily available for your child’s early departure from school. Should severe weather prompt school closure during the school day, buses may take children home early. Current parent/guardian phone numbers must be on file in the office.
Safety Drills: To ensure student’s safety, periodic tornado, fire, two lockdown, and two evacuation drills are conducted during the school year. These will ensure students learn and experience appropriate safety measures if needed.
JTexts
JTexts will be sent from school periodically to keep families up to date with school events, reminders, and notices.

A free mobile app is also available from the Apple App Store and Google Play. This app can be customized to show information for your children’s schools. It can be found by searching for “St. Mary Parish Schools” in the app stores. The app icon will show the egret logo.
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Three Parent/Teacher conferences days are scheduled on the St. Mary Parish Schools yearly calendar. On these dates, students receive progress reports and will be released early from school to allow time for these meetings. Parent/Teacher Conference |

We encourage and welcome parent conferences. However, all conferences MUST be made through the front office. The time of the conference will be set regarding the time that is most convenient for both the teacher and the parent. It is very important that teachers are not taken from their classroom duties during school hours.
